Anna High School hosted the 2023 Shelby County Science Day competition on February 2.
Congratulations to AHS senior Chase Murray on winning 1st place overall project! AHS senior Meredith Klein had the 2nd place overall project, and AHS senior Gabriel Daniel received 3rd place overall. Chase received a $200 cash award for 1st place, and Meredith and Gabriel each received $100 awards. These overall awards were funded by Emerson.
Many category awards were also won by AHS students. Congratulations to the following winners, who received cash prizes sponsored by Emerson:
Behavioral Sciences: 1st place Chase Murray ($100), 2nd place Meredith Klein ($50), 3rd place Gabriel Daniel ($50)
Medicine & Health: 1st place Jadyn Huber ($100), 2nd place Ava Bertke ($50), 3rd place Abigail McEldowney ($50)
Physics, Robotics, & Engineering: 2nd place Ethan Maurer ($50), 3rd place Josh Mealy ($50)
Chemistry, Energy, & Material Science: 1st place Ryan Noll ($100), 2nd place Taylor Poeppelman ($50)
Animal & Plant Science: 1st place Carson Spangler ($100), 2nd place Leah Meyer ($50)
Several Special Awards were also won by AHS students.
The Spirit of Science award, sponsored by a Miami Valley family, went to Meredith Klein ($100).
The Best Presentation of Data, sponsored by Cargill, was awarded to Leah Meyer ($100).
The Best Abstract, sponsored by Cargill, was won by Meredith Klein ($100).
Congratulations to all the award winners and those advancing to the district competition. 74% of the participating students earned a Superior and the right to move on to District Science Day. The Anna Schools are extremely proud of the hard work all students put into their research projects, papers, and display boards.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to AHS teacher Vicki Quinter for all of her work preparing students, supporting their efforts, and organizing the Science Day each year. Thanks also to Emerson and Cargill for their sponsorship of the prizes and other donations for the Science Day and to Martin English for coordination of the competition.
