Anna Middle School is hosting the Amazing Shake for its 7th graders on Friday, May 2 and we need your help!
What’s The Amazing Shake? The Amazing Shake is 3-round soft skills competition teaching students the importance of manners, discipline, respect, and how to conduct him or herself in a professional environment and that these are all part of being successful. At Anna Middle School, students learn the mechanics of a proper handshake and working the room so that they are able to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities today and in the future.
Anna Middle School is partnering with Workforce Partnership of Shelby County to provide this fun, learning experience for their 7th grade students.
Round 1 of the competition, “The Gauntlet”, begins with each student traveling through a 22-station obstacle course, where they will spend 1 minute interacting with a business professional while demonstrating a specific skill. When the timer rings, the student has 30 seconds to proceed to their next station and during those 30 seconds the business professional scores that student. A predetermined scorecard will be provided with scoring based on handshake, eye contact, engagement, ability to think on their feet, etc. before hosting the next student.
After Round 1, the scoring will be tallied and the top 15 students will be announced and they will move on to Round 2: “Work-the-Room”. Work-the-Room is similar to a social hour at an event and students will have to interact with professionals in a mingling type of atmosphere while enjoying a dessert. Upon completion of Round 2, the professionals will meet to review scores and notes, then select the top 5 students to compete in the Final Round, On Stage Interviews, to be hold in front of their middle school peers.
In order to hold this major event for our students, we need your help! We need 44 business professionals or community members to volunteer at Anna Middle School on May 2nd. As a volunteer you will run a station, interact with the students, and act as judge for the competition.
