Fifth grade students enjoyed testing their science knowledge and skills during Science Olympiad Day May 12th. Thank you to Mrs. Quinter's calculus class for leading the events.
The five events included:
- Can your boat float? Each team built a boat out of foil. The boat that held the most weight without sinking was the winner.
- Cotton Catapult: Each team designed and built a catapult that launched a cotton ball as far as possible. The team whose cotton ball traveled the farthest distance won.
- Hang Time: Each team built a parachute for a bottle cap. When dropped from the top of a ladder, the team whose parachute stayed in the air the longest was the winner.
- Humpty Dumpty's Dilemma: Each team built a frame that will prevent a raw egg from breaking when dropped. The team whose egg did not crack or break with the lightest frame won.
- Skimmer Derby: Each team constructed and attached a sail to a skimmer hull. The team whose skimmer traveled the farthest distance won.
- Structures: Each team built a suspension bridge. The strongest, longest bridge won.
